Made two streets back from the harbour
Saltgrass began on a kitchen table in Whitstable, with a pan of beeswax and a bag of samphire from the marshes. It is still small: four people, one workshop and a few hundred jars a week.
We make the things we use ourselves. Plain, useful, and a little salty.
How we make it
- Small batches
- Every jar is filled by hand in our Whitstable workshop, about two hundred at a time.
- Grown nearby
- Rapeseed from Faversham, samphire and kelp from the north Kent shore, beeswax from Canterbury.
- Glass, tin and paper
- Packed in frosted glass, aluminium and paper you can refill or recycle. No plastic tubs.

Post from the coast
A short letter four times a year: new batches, what is growing on the marsh, and nothing else.
